Microsoft Copilot Is Here – Are You Ready to Become an AI-Enabled Organisation?

By Jared Bagnall

Copilot is a new generative AI capability from Microsoft that combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with your organisation’s data – all in the flow of work – to turn your words into one of the most powerful productivity tools on the planet.

Through a blend of public information and internal business data, Copilot provides users with the ability to find answers to their questions more efficiently and using natural language – much like having a conversation. What’s more, users can leverage Copilot to create content from those answers, boosting creativity and enhancing productivity.

Copilot currently works alongside popular Microsoft 365 Apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and more, and as of last week, this functionality is available to almost all organisations that have a E3 or E5 M365 licence of any size.

So, how can Copilot translate into real-world efficiency gains for your business?

Here are just a few ways:

  • Turbocharge Your Content Creation: Say goodbye to writer’s block. Copilot can generate drafts, emails, presentations, and reports based on your prompts, saving you precious time and effort. Need a compelling product description? Just give Copilot some keywords and watch it craft persuasive copy.
  • Conquer the Data Mountain: Struggling to make sense of mountains of data in Excel? Copilot can analyse your spreadsheets, identify trends, and even generate charts and graphs, giving you actionable insights immediately. No more hours spent wrestling with formulas – Copilot takes the data crunching wheel.
  • Master Your Inbox: Drowning in emails? Copilot can help you sort through the clutter, prioritise messages, and even draft quick, professional replies. It can also flag important emails and schedule follow-ups, ensuring you never miss a beat.
  • Boost Collaboration and Communication: Copilot enhances teamwork by summarising meetings you couldn’t attend, generating agendas, and facilitating brainstorming sessions. It can even translate languages in real-time, breaking down communication barriers and fostering global collaboration.

Copilot’s potential extends far beyond basic automation.

It can:

  • Personalise your workflow: Learn your work style and preferences, adapting its suggestions and assistance to your individual needs.
  • Integrate with other tools: Connect with external applications and services, further expanding its capabilities and streamlining your workflow.
  • Continuously learn and evolve: As Copilot interacts with you and your data, it becomes smarter and more adept at anticipating your needs, offering ever-more valuable assistance.

The future of work is here

Copilot represents a paradigm shift in how we work. It’s not just about saving time; it’s about freeing up employees to focus on higher-level thinking, creativity, and strategic initiatives. By taking on the burden of mundane tasks and providing intelligent support, Copilot empowers businesses to achieve more, faster, and with greater ease.

What will it cost?

Microsoft Copilot will be priced at US $360 per user per year, which is paid in addition to your Microsoft 365 license.

The ROI for Copilot could be as little as a couple of months, with some customers saving up to 10 hours of time per user per month – time that could be reallocated to more productive work for these organisations. These figures are based on data that is available from Microsoft and customers that have already been able to access the capability.

Where do you start?

  1. Start with a plan for rollout of this new functionality to your business that includes:
  • What data you want to make available, where it is located and how
  • Ensuring your security practices are up to date and utilise modern role-based access controls using Microsoft Entra.
  • Change management including training and shared learning to ensure a successful rollout and maximise your return on investment.
  1. Look for opportunities to extend your Copilot implementation through your organisation’s apps and data based on prioritised use cases.

  1. Further enhance your organisation’s AI enabled transformations by extending your AI capabilities beyond Copilot.
